Leonard Bighetty was born in The Pas, Manitoba. His family is originally from Pukatawagan, Manitoba, Mathias Colomb Cree First Nations.
Art has always been a large part of Leonard's journey. His father was a wildlife artist and an inspiration for the development of his passion for Aboriginal art. Leonard has a deep understanding of the symbolism and universal concepts of Aboriginal art. He strives to maintain a vital force towards a strong sense of harmony and respect for life.
His work has been described as being abstract, with a combination of surrealistic and realistic imagery.The sun and the stars are used to symbolize life, consciousness, the Grandfathers, and the Spirit. He feels that the essence of being a visual artist is being able to comprehend and direct information into images.
Leonard's work has been commissioned by collectors and a wide variety of organizations and businesses across North America and Europe.
